A wide variety of scholarships are available to international students studying at Australian universities. These scholarships are based solely on the academic merits of the students and can cover tuition fees, living expenses and travel costs.

The Scholarships typically cover part of the tuition fees, while research programs may provide total funding for tuition and living expenses.

Besides university scholarships, Government scholarships are also available for international students who want to study in Australia. Australian Development Scholarship (ADS)

The Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) program is designed for international students who want to study at an accredited university in Australia and return to their home countries to help contribute to national and regional development.

They are offered for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs, vocational courses and more.  

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)

Leadership is key to success in any field, and Australia recognizes this through its Australian Leadership Awards (ALA). These awards provide an opportunity for outstanding individuals to develop their leadership skills and abilities further while in Australia. Applications are typically open from March to June each year.

Australia Awards Scholarships

The Australian government offers a fully-funded scholarship program for international students from developing countries Australia Awards Scholarships. The awards cover tuition fees, living expenses, airfare, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and associated costs for two years of study at participating universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions in Australia.

The scholarship is funded by the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT).

The students must return to their home countries after completing their courses.

Australian Government Research and Training Program (AGRTP)

The Australian Government Research and Training Program (AGRTP) is funded by the Govt. of Australia. Under this scholarship scheme, students can avail of tuition fees and medical insurance for up to three years.

Research Master’s and Research Doctorate programs are eligible for this scholarship. An amount of A$ 28,587 is paid to the students every fortnight. 

Students must apply either in August or April.

John Allwright Fellowship (JAF)

The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) offers scientists from partner countries the opportunity to pursue postgraduate and doctoral programs at Australian institutions of higher learning.

The scholarships through John Allwright Fellowship (JAF) program are provided annually to the researchers.

This opportunity allows the candidates to gain advanced knowledge and skills in their field of research, which they can take back to their home countries to help improve the agricultural sector.

Destination Australia

The Destination Australia Scholarship provides international students with an opportunity to study in regional Australia and help develop tertiary education providers in the region. It is a great way to learn about the country and its people while gaining valuable educational experience.

The purpose of offering this scholarship to international students is twofold: first, to increase the number of tertiary education providers in regional Australia and, second, to provide a unique learning experience for its students.

The scheme is fully backed by the Education Department of Govt. of Australia.

Each student may get a fund of up to A$15,000 per year to pursue studies on campus.

Eligible students can receive up to four years of financial aid, depending on their qualifications. This support is part of the National Strategy for International Education 2025.

Endeavour Postgraduate Awards are available to international students wishing to pursue master’s or PhD studies in Australia. These prestigious awards cover all financial costs for 2 to 3.5 years of study, and applications are accepted from April to June each year.

Under this scheme, Rotary Clubs offer Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships! These scholarships provide funds to cover round-trip transportation, course fees, and living costs, up to a maximum of AU$27,000.
