Part-Time Job

A part-time job is allowed during the study in New Zealand. You can work 20 hours per week during your studies and get a minimum of NZ$20 per hour

There is no restriction on the hours you can work if you are a student in a Master’s program related to research or a doctoral degree awarded by one of the New Zealand tertiary institutions. 

Your earnings will depend upon what kind of jobs you get or take up. There is an opportunity to make extra bucks by working on public holidays or study breaks.  

Your full-time course must meet one of the following requirements – 

  • The duration of your program is at least two years. 
  • Your degree qualifies for a New Zealand Skilled Migrant visa. 
  • Your course lasts one academic year, and you will participate in an approved Tertiary Exchange Scheme. 
  • Your course is conducted in one of the private institutions or tertiary institutions, and the main objective of the program is to develop your English language skills. You have an overall IELTS band score of 5.0 or above. 
  • Your course is a full-time English language program with at least 14 weeks in a university.  

Post Study Work Visa

PSW Visa for New Zealand

You are eligible for a Post Study Work Visa for up to 3 years, depending on your qualifications.

If you complete a Master’s or Doctoral level course in New Zealand and studied no less than 30 weeks, you are eligible to work for three years in New Zealand.

If your course was at level eight or below, you would be eligible for a work visa of the same duration as your study.

If you cannot pass your course or take longer to finish your study than what is mentioned on your offer of place, it will not extend the length of your visa.

Student visa requirements

New Zealand Student Visa Application: Study in New Zealand
  • An offer of place from an education institute approved by the Ministry of Education or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
  • Proof of tuition fees payment.
  • Passport Copy.
  • Proof of funds for your living expenses ((NZ$20,000 per year) and the source of the money.
  • Flight ticket or proof of money for the same.
  • Visa Application Fee.
  • A medical certificate or chest x-ray, or a police clearance certificate, if asked.
